Statement
I came to photography later in life. My interest is in portrait photography — in trying to capture something real in a person’s expression, something that goes beyond the surface.Born in Türkiye, raised mostly in the U.S., and now living in the UK, I’ve always existed in a kind of cultural in-between.Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to portraiture: it’s where identities surface. It’s where people reveal who they are — or who they think they are — in a fraction of a second. For me, the camera isn’t about control or perfection. It’s about presence. When I photograph someone, especially while traveling through places layered with history and contrast, I look for that quiet expression or glance that says more than words could. Every face carries something — lived experience, memory, tension, pride. I try to hold space for that, and let the photograph speak for itself.
